Cat in the hat:
How did it go?
My group of students loved reading this book because it was a funny book. At the end of the day in the book the cat in the hat had to clean up all his mess & the children had to tell their Mom about their day. But! The issue was would they tell their Mom the truth or lie? Our discusson involved talking about honesty.
En Mi Familia:
How did it go?
This past week has been rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to meet a few fifth and sixth graders. In meeting May and Monica we read the book En Mi Familia by Carmen Lomas Garcia. I had the students read every other page- as we took turns reading I jotted down words that the students struggled with pronouncing.
Book Fiesta:
How did it go?
My group of student love to read! So "Book Fiesta" was a easy read for them. Our vocabulary words were a lot of spanish words which we translated to english words and the next day the kids were so excited to learn spanish.
Magic School Bus, Inside the earth:
How did it go?
Great! We covered many differnt topics of the earths crust and different rocks formed my volcanos such as metamorphic rocks which are formed by heat and pressure and igneous rocks. We also talked about how people are able to cut through rocks with using a jackhammer. The kids were completly engaged and loved learning about the earth.
Where the wild things run:
How did it go?
My students loved reading this book because many of them have seen the movie. The little boy in the book has a huge imagination and loves to create new things in his mind. In this story he created monsters and was the king over them. One of the issues that we covered was, when you have a bad dream you can be the king over your monsters.
The Other Side:
Issue: Do you ever see people at your school picking on eachother because of a difference in apperance?
How did it go?
My students loved reading this book about acceptance. This book was about a little girl who had a desire to play with another little girl- but, their parents didnt allow them to play together because of their difference in race. In the middle of the book they were playing and laughing together. Me and my menti's talked about: segergation and accepting others for who they are & not based on their outward apperance ex: race, disabilities, age, weight etc
